Last updated: 20 August 2026. This policy explains what comparesmallbusinessinsurance.com collects, why, who we share it with, and how to make us stop.
1. Who we are
comparesmallbusinessinsurance.com (“we”, “us”, the “Site”) is owned and operated by CP Ventures. We are an independent insurance comparison and referral publisher. We are not an insurance company, agency or broker; we do not underwrite, sell or service insurance. For anything in this policy, the controller of your data is CP Ventures, reachable through the contact form.
2. What we collect
Very little. We do not run a quote form, we do not ask for your phone number, and there is nothing on this site you have to fill in to read it.
Information you give us
Only what you type into our contact form: your name, email address, the topic you pick, and your message. That is the single place on this site where you can hand us personal information.
Our cost calculator and the estimator on our home page look like forms but are not. Every selection you make is processed in your browser only. Nothing is transmitted to us, nothing is stored, and no email address is required to see your estimate.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we automatically receive: IP address, approximate country or region derived from it, browser type and user agent, device type, referring URL, the pages you view, and how long you stay. Our host, Cloudflare, logs request data for security and performance.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for and do not want your Social Security number, tax ID, date of birth, payment card or bank details, health information, or driver’s licence number. Never send those through our forms. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information as defined by California law.
3. How we use your information
- To answer you. Contact-form messages are used to reply to you and nothing else. We do not add senders to a marketing list.
- To operate and improve the Site — analytics, page-speed work, understanding which guides are useful.
- To prevent fraud and abuse — bot filtering, spam prevention and security logging.
- To comply with law and to establish or defend legal claims.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
4. Who we share it with
We share your information with:
- Service providers who run parts of the Site for us: Cloudflare (hosting, security, bot protection via Turnstile), Google (Analytics 4, and Gmail — contact-form messages are delivered to us by email), Microsoft (Clarity), and n8n (our own workflow automation, which routes the contact form to us). These providers process your data on our instructions, not for their own purposes.
- Insurance companies — never. We want to be exact about this, because a lot of comparison sites are not. We do not send your details to any insurer, agency or lead buyer, because we never collect them. The only way to reach an insurer from this site is to click through to them yourself, at which point you are on their site giving them their own information under their own privacy policy. We have nothing to pass on and nothing to sell.
- Affiliate networks that measure referral clicks so partners can credit us — these receive click and conversion data, not your form details.
- Authorities or advisers where the law requires it, or to protect our rights.
We do not sell your contact details to marketers, data brokers or list resellers, and we never have.
5. Cookies and tracking technologies
The Site uses a small number of third-party scripts. What each does:
| Technology | Provider | What it does | Opt out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 | Counts visits, pages and referral sources so we know which guides are read | GA opt-out add-on | |
| Microsoft Clarity | Microsoft | Aggregated scroll depth and click heatmaps so we can fix confusing pages | Browser cookie controls; Microsoft privacy statement |
| Cloudflare Turnstile | Cloudflare | Confirms a human, not a bot, sent a contact message. No behavioural advertising use | Required on the contact form only |
| Affiliate click tracking | CJ Affiliate / partner networks | Attributes a referral to us if you click through and buy | Browser cookie controls |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies does not stop you using the Site. We honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a valid opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information where applicable law requires it. We do not serve behavioural retargeting ads.
6. Calls, texts and marketing email
We will not call you, text you, or add you to a mailing list. We do not collect phone numbers at all, and the only email address we ever hold is one you typed into the contact form so we could write back — which is the only thing we use it for. We run no newsletter and no marketing campaigns.
If you click through to an insurer and give them your details, whatever you agreed to on their site governs how they contact you. That is between you and them; ask them directly to stop, or use the opt-out their message carries.
7. Your rights, wherever you live
Regardless of where you live, you may ask us to: tell you what personal information we hold about you; give you a copy of it; correct it; delete it; or stop sharing it with insurance partners. Use the contact form and pick “Privacy request”. We respond within 45 days and will never charge you or treat you worse for asking. We may need to verify your identity, usually by confirming control of the email address in the request.
8. California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
In the past 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (the name and email address of anyone who wrote to us, plus IP address), internet activity (pages viewed, referrer), and coarse geolocation (country or region inferred from IP). We collect them from you directly, when you write to us, and from your device automatically. We do not collect telephone numbers.
Sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information as the CPRA defines those terms. Our revenue comes from affiliate commissions when you click through to an insurer and buy from them — the insurer pays us for the referral, not for your data. There is no lead sale here because there are no leads: we collect nothing to sell. Should that ever change we would update this section and offer an opt-out before starting. We do not sell or share the personal information of anyone we know to be under 16.
Your California rights: to know, to access, to correct, to delete, to opt out of sale/sharing, to limit use of sensitive personal information (we collect none), and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of them. To exercise the opt-out, pick “Privacy request” on the contact form and write “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”, or send a GPC signal from your browser. An authorised agent may act for you with written proof of authority.
9. UK and EEA visitors
Our service is aimed at US small businesses, but if you are in the UK or EEA: our legal bases are your consent (writing to us, non-essential cookies), the performance of a contract or steps at your request (answering your enquiry), and our legitimate interests (site security, fraud prevention, understanding usage). You may withdraw consent at any time, and you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, plus the right to complain to your supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO). Data transferred to the United States is handled under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards with our processors.
10. Retention and security
Contact-form messages are delivered to our own inbox and kept for up to 24 months so we can follow up and resolve disputes. Analytics data follows each provider’s default retention (14 months for GA4). We hold data on encrypted, access-controlled infrastructure and transmit everything over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security — if a breach affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.
11. Children
The Site is for business owners and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy, and how to reach us
We update this policy when our practices or the law change, and we revise the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the page. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
